Stone Fruit Smoothie Bowl

The one thing I usually look forward to when returning home from a vacation is getting back to eating healthy again. I can't lie, I do treat myself when I'm on vacay – I mean you gotta live a little. But while visiting San Francisco a couple of weeks ago, I spotted this awesome food truck called bowl'd açai, not far from our hotel. They make nutritious and super-yummy açai smoothies and smoothie bowls without any added sugars and fillers.

The very next morning at 9am sharp, I was ordering a smoothie bowl, excited to get away from your typical unhealthy (and expensive) hotel breakfast...and to start the day the right way. I ordered the Green Goliath, and Reza, one of the owners of bowl'd açai (and super-nice guy), explained to me what açai is all about. The açai berry looks like a cross between a blueberry and a grape. Its pulp has richer antioxidents than blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc., and is low in sugar. Here in the U.S., acai berries come not as a whole fruit, but as a frozen, unsweetened purée.

Once back from our vacay, I couldn't wait to make a smoothie bowl of my own. Stone fruit are the star of the summer season for me and I take full advantage of them during those few months. Nothing's better than biting into a ripe and juicy peach. At times I feel we fall into a rut and tend to eat the same stuff, so stone fruit is a welcome change and makes for a great summer smoothie. Enjoy!
